Scholarship Opportunities

It’s that wonderful time of year if you’re a student the nice weather outside may signal the near end of another year and it’s the time when most Jaycee chapters give away there annual scholarship to students in their communities. But did you know that as a Jaycee member you and your family are eligible for FIVE scholarship programs funded by our organization? There are three from The U.S. Jaycee Foundation and two from our very own Illinois Jaycees Charitable Foundation below is a little information about each scholarship program and the requirements. WAR MEMORIAL FUND SCHOLARSHIP – Ten (10) scholarships awarded annually. Applicants must be citizens of the United States, possess academic potential and leadership qualities, and show financial need. The scholarship is an award of $1,000 sent directly to the recipient’s college or university of choice. The award is to be applied as credit for tuition, books, laboratory fees, or other academic costs, and room and board when housed under control of the institution involved.

THOMAS WOOD BALDRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP – One (1) scholarship awarded annually. Available to a Jaycee, immediate family member of a Jaycee, or a descendant of a former Jaycee, and must be enrolled in or accepted for admission to a college or university. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, possess academic potential and leadership qualities, and show financial need. The scholarship is a one-time award of $3,000 sent directly to the recipient’s college or university of choice. The award is to be applied as credit for tuition, books, laboratory fees, or other academic costs, and room and board when housed under control of the institution involved.

CHARLES R. FORD SCHOLARSHIP – One (1) scholarship awarded annually. Available to an active member of the Jaycees who wishes to return to a college or university to complete his or her formal education. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, possess academic potential and leadership qualities, and show financial need. The scholarship is a one-time award of $2,500 sent directly to the recipient’s college or university of choice. The award is to be applied as credit for tuition, books, laboratory fees, or other academic costs, and room and board when housed under control of the institution involved.

Illinois Jaycee Charitable Foundation Scholarship – All graduating high school seniors, residing in Illinois, who will be enrolling in their first year of full-time study at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational school are eligible for application. Jaycee chapters are encourage to sponsor an applicant or an individual may apply independently. Recipients are based upon involvement, leadership roles, honors and awards, employment, personal statement, financial statement, scholastic achievement and references. Specific questions can be found on the application. Judging is done by an independent group with recipients being notified in December. Roger D. Colbert Memorial Scholarship – All graduating high school seniors, residing in Illinois, who will be enrolling in their first year of full-time study at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational school who are related to an Illinois Jaycee member or JCI Senator are eligible for application. Recipients are based upon involvement, leadership roles, honors and awards, Jaycee organization participation, employment, personal statements, financial statement, scholastic achievement and sponsor letter. Specific questions can be found on the application. Judging is done by an independent group with recipients being notified in April.
